Nurturing the whole community

Pogy’s Sub Sandwiches, at 2855 E. Hayes Street in Newberg, has a reputation for serving great food and for treating its customers as if they are friends and family. But owner Paula Runnells is not only providing sustenance to the community by offering exceptional meals, she is taking her efforts to an entirely different level via good works on behalf of the community.
For instance, on the third Tuesday of every month, Paula donates 10 percent of the day’s sales to Love INC., to help that organization continue to serve the community.

“I chose Love INC. because they help the whole community by organizing all the churches to fill the needs of everyone possible,” Paula said. “By involving the churches, more people are aware of Love INC., and what they do in the name of Christ.”

Paula is also deeply involved in Relay for Life, an organization dedicated to battling cancer and providing support for those who are inflicted with the disease.

“We all know Relay For Life pulls everyone together for support, love, and accomplishment,” Paula said. “It’s all about saving as many cancer victims as possible and celebrating with those who have overcome cancer.”

Paula’s efforts on behalf of the Newberg community reflect the same type of commitment she offers through her restaurant business.

“I make sure we go the extra mile to give our customers exactly what they want,” Paula said. “We aim to please, and we have good food.”
